The 5 lb Holiday Smack Down….

I’ve DECIDED that I need to get 5 lbs off my body by x-mas….. I have gone over my reset button weight – again – and it’s time to get my head back in the game….

Like most of you may find dropping weight is easier than keeping it off.  I had a pretty good run at it for 3 years – but I am struggling. I did hit my fit at 50 goal only because I put myself out there to all of you and there was no way I was going to fail.  So, I’m calling on you all again to motivate me to reach my goal, and I want you to join me.

This time of year can be difficult – the dreaded holiday blues, which I’m feeling a twinge of this year ….. My goal is to beat back those blues by getting off my pity potty and start to move. Who says just because the holidays are here we have to be joyful and happy…. We need to make our own joy and happiness year round. This time of year is very hard for a lot of people out there. It could be because of a family fight, a son, daughter, mother or father being over-seas protecting our country, the dealth of a loved one, a divorce, loss of friendships – this list could go on and on -but  loss is loss regardless of its shape or form – so none of this forced fun as I like to say. Let it be what it will be – trust me, it will take the edge off not to have to pretend.  Instead let’s pick a memory from a happier time. For me it will alway be my father drilling holes into a charlie brown x-mas tree to make it look fuller. We didn’t have a lot when I was younger, but how creative was that man – we always had a beautiful full tree, oh, and stockings  that always had an orange in the toe, my brother and sisters laugh about that til this day….. Ok that in itself may have giving me a burst of Christmas spirit as I set up my Christmas tree.

Too funny  – anyway – I have started the couch to 5k 2 times a week, running with Miss Chula is a blast, and I still do my husband’s boot camp two times a week – which I love. Exercise is a great way to boost those feel-good hormones.  So I have to wonder, what is going on here??

It is the same thing that was going on 3 years ago – yada yada yada – a movie size box of milk duds, yada, yada yada – I’m letting junk creep back in, not working as hard…. I do know the drill – honestly – but when you don’t have a driving motivation, sometimes it’s hard not to get a tad complacent… and that is where I’m at. “The Girls”, have been my driving motivation for the last 3 years.

And it’s more than just food and exercise for me right now – I need to get out of the house. I need to mingle, I need to have fun. After talking to a new client of mine I got some of my motivation back, so thank you missy – you know who you are (wink). When you give, I swear you get back 10 fold, and I feel very blessed right now.  So here is what I’m going to do…

I’m going to continue my C25K with Miss Chula, I am going to continue boot camp 2 times a week, I am going to pick up a Zumba class on Saturday morning because dancing is good for your soul, I am going to attend a yoga class on Wednesday night because stretching and meditating is good for your body, mind and spirit – I may even join a bowling league because that would be fun…. Who knows – I do love to bowl. Hot baths with lavender epsom salt, maybe even a monthly manicure, pedicure and massages. Damn – that sounds great doesn’t it?!

Food wise – I’m going to try out Chris Powell’s High / Low carb plan from his new book Choose to Lose – which will basically look like this:

Breakfast – Oatmeal apple and blueberries – each day. On the fat / protein day walnuts – on the protein / carb day – egg whites.

AM Snack – High carb day – peanut butter on EZ bread / Low carb day Egg whites and green beans

Lunch – High carb day – Salad, quinoa and ground turkey / low carb day salad, sliced almonds and avocado.

PM snack – high carb day brown rice and fish / low carb day green smoothie

Dinner – high carb day quinoa pasta with ground turkey marinara / low carb day chicken green beans and salad….

You see the pattern here right?  One day carbs and protein / one day protein and fats / veggies. This is definitely do-able…. Oh and there is one whole off day, but it has to land on your high carb day…

So I’m ready – get your plan together and let’s get this thing done – imagine going into the new year feeling lighter and more fit instead of beating yourself up because you’ve put on 5 lbs.

Like the Rock says “Just bring it”…….
