Ha – can you count how many times I say so or ya know… good grief!!
This past Tuesday night I was at the Rt 2 Hyundai dealer in Fitchburg – with my fingers crossed hoping to win $12,ooo – if you bought a car last month you were put into this month’s drawing – of course I didn’t win, but a young woman who probably needed it more than me did – so I was ok with that…. While I was there I met this very interesting woman who I was shocked to hear was 75…. As we chatted we ended up talking about health and she said – “You can have all the money in the world, but if you don’t have your health it doesn’t matter….” Her sister or sister-in-law is very wealthy, but has severed diabetes. I noticed as the Hors d’oeuvre went around her and her husband passed on all the not so healthy choices and nibbled only on the healthier ones. Which made me think ….Anyone can stay fit at any age IF they choose/decide to make good choices….
Kids from birth to their teen years are pretty much at the mercy of their parents.
College kids – will of course snack and party, but if they’ve were brought up understanding how healthy food choices and physical activity will benefit them in the long run – they will incorporate that into their college years, they just won’t tell you that you were right.
Young Adults – to me it seems that this is when most young men and women try to look their best to be attractive to the opposite sex. So they are going to do whatever it takes to get in shape – again hopefully brought up knowing how to do it the right way vs. the wrong way – (bulimia, anorexia, steroids)
Parents – here is when it comes full circle. Now you have your own children and we always want our kids to have better than we did. This is your chance to mold and teach your children the importance of eating healthy, playing, having fun, getting rest, loving themselves for who they are, coordinate play dates so they learn to make friends, etc. This is the hardest job anyone can have – oh besides our underappreciated under paid teachers.
So here is the deal – what we learn as children we carry into adult hood, but as adults we can make our own choices. The choices you make in your 20 and 30’s will affect your body in its 40 and 50’s – the choices you make in your 50 and 60’s will affect your quality of life in your 70, 80’s and beyond. You are never too young or old to start making healthy decision to help enhance the quality of your health and life.
