Skin Care – Pigmentation success story!

Some of you may or may not know that I am a licensed Esthetician – I have just recently start doing skin care again out of my home office part-time, which I love. My focus is on Anit-aging /mature/ pigmented skin.

One of my clients who has been on program for about six weeks now has had amazing results. We decided to focus on pigmentation since she had a lot of “freckling”. See her photo below – amazing right… So just to set the stage for these results. This was at the end of summer after vacation, and she did have a bit of a tan. What I want you to focus on is the dark spots on her skin – some of the darker ones are noticeably lighter, others completely gone. She is extremely happy with these results.

So where did we start?  First of all I had her come into my “office” where we did a skin analysis to determine issues and created a plan of action specific to her.  Let me point out that your at-home routine is as or more important as your monthly treatments – just like exercise. You can go see your personal trainer, but if you don’t do your “homework” meaning keeping your diet clean and doing other exercise, you will not get the results you want. Skin care is the same. For this particular client I put her on 3 products. Her “homework” was divided into two parts, a morning and evening routine. Her AM routine included washing her face with creamy or gel cleanser (which she had), applying a pigment control product, and a daily moisturizer with a SPF to protect her skin. People – I cannot stress enough the importance of applying an SPF each and every day before you walk out the door, rain, shine, snow, clouds, etc. it doesn’t matter – you should apply an SPF every day!  For her PM routine we added a retinol product (Retinols help to dissolve build up on the skin, accelerate the cellular turn over and stimulate collagen production.), and replaced the sunscreen with a nightly moisturizer.  Sleep is known to have a rejuvenating effect not only on the mind but also on our body as a whole. Night-time is when the skin rebuilds and regenerates itself, which give us the opportunity to help nourish it by adding some topical product.  The main causes of aging are loss of Elastin and collagen, low levels of Hyaluronic acid and oxidation caused by free radicals – again, this circles back to why sun screen and retinols are so important.
