One person can make a difference…

And here’s how…. On Monday July 24th I was driving home around 8 pm and saw a little Chi walking down the road like nobody’s business….. I pulled over right away to see if I could get her, another woman pulled up right behind me because she saw her too.  We both looked around a little but it was too dark and she took off into the woods.  I pulled in the driveway grabbed a flashlight and my husband and I went off to take one more look – I would not have been able to sleep if I didn’t, but no luck.

When I got home from work Tuesday, my husband told me the woman who had lost the dog had stopped by with a flyer; apparently the woman who had stopped with me contacted someone.  So here is how Katie ended up on the streets.  The owner’s friend was watching her and while walking her she slipped out of her collar and ran off – that was on Saturday – two days before I even saw her. The owner called me directly on Wednesday and had told me there had been a few sightings before mine. I gave her gave all the details and explained exactly where I saw her.  A few days later she called and told me they had seen her again on the street on the other side of the woods she ran through.

I offered to show her the paths in the woods, we walked all the way through which gave her an idea where to set her little traps…. A week had gone by and I didn’t hear any more and just assumed she wasn’t found – so sad…

But………. Saturday August 4, exactly two weeks after she ran off –  I got a call from the owner and she told me they caught her in one of their traps the night before!  Amazing right!!!  She said she had lost about 1/3 of her weight and had a few cut but other than that she was good.  Can you even believe it!

If the woman behind me didn’t contact the appropriate person, and see me pull into my driveway – the owner would have never come to my house, got my phone number or had me show her the trails in the woods – which I use to horseback ride on. I was actually surprised they were still there and intact.  The little bugger was following them all over the place, and only coming out at night – there were a few more sighting after mine, but when the people tried to catch her she ran away.  As of today little Katie is home safe and sound with her family because someone took the time to pick up a phone which triggered a set of action that saved a little dog.

This could have been anyone or anything – the point is one person made a difference.
